PEACE AND JUSTICE COMMITTEE

This Committee supports Quaker testimonies through events, letter writing, educational opportunities, and witnessing in the wider community.  For example, we compiled the list of Recycling Resources (see The Green Pages) and Fair Trade Coffee Resources (see We Support....Chicago Fair Trade Congregations pages).

Peace and Justice Committee Agenda, Sept 23, 2012

1. Update on Charitable Contributions

2. Email from Joe Scarry

I note that your congregation is very active in social justice issues, e.g. as a member of NRCAT.
I have organized protests against drones here in Chicago, together with Protest Chaplains of Chicago.

See: http://nodronesillinois.blogspot.com/2012/08/taking-no-drones-message-to-masses-at.html

Is this an area of interest for you?
Thank you for everything you are doing,

Joe Scarry

We decided Kelly will send him a non-committal reply, and agreed that during the next month
we would visit the above webpage and learn a little more about his work before we make any
real decision.

a. They have a model fake drone they take to protests such as Aug 19 Air an Water show or
Set 4 Obama HQp. Sponsored by FOR among others.

b. I found 2010 FCNL report on drones, L3 communications, Electrodynamics in Rolling
Meadows make explosive for warheads.

“Perhaps we ought to start by asking these companies what conditions they place on the use of the weapons to make sure they are not used to break international laws?”

3. Update on ILYM’s Peacemakers Archive Project

4. Update on January 6th Peace Testimony Presentation—it’s a go!

5. Suggestion from Burke to Respond to the Letter Below
