Quakers have had a tradition of writing as a venue for sharing their experiences of living out their practice of faith.  What has been your experience with the Quaker practice of writing? How has reading the writings of others impacted you?  What role does your practice of writing (personal journal, public blog, letters to the editor or politicians, etc) have in your spiritual life?  What are some of the challenges you find in expressing your faith and your faith-based actions in writing?  What has been a good encouraging experience with Quaker writing that you would like to share with others?  The next issue of Among Friends will be an opportunity for us to share with each other on the topic of the Quaker practice of writing. Articles often range from 350 to 2000 words, though having a few pages with a collection of short paragraphs by a variety of people could be interesting.

In addition to items related to this above topic Among Friends is also looking for other items that contain first person reflections such as spiritual reflections, reflections on programs/project of monthly meetings or reflections on service that have their foundation in one's Quaker faith and practice, as well as reflections/reports on the work of monthly meetings and yearly meeting committees.  Poetry, artwork and photographs related to the above are also sought.

In view of the publication time line (issues coming out often two to three months after the deadline), Among Friends is not a good venue for items that contain  announcements of things with dates and deadlines.  Such item would find more timely and better distribution through the ILYM email list and the corresponding printed monthly digest.

To submit items for Among Friends please leave a message on this page.
