Metropolitan Chicago General Meeting
at Downers Grove Friends Meeting
May 7, 2011
Attending: Helen Dickinson (Oak Park), Ted Ehnle (Northside), Judy Erickson (Oak Park), Pam Kuhn (Lake Forest), Mark McGinnis (Upper Fox Valley), Bonni McKeown (Chicago Friends), Ruth Marquez (Downers Grove), Marlene Pedigo (Plainfield), Laura Rippe (Downers Grove), Becki Salee (Downers Grove), Earl Smith (Chicago Friends), Martha Turner (Evanston),
The meeting began with a period of waiting worship.
Agenda. The clerk reviewed the agenda and asked for other items of business.
Treasurers Report. Treasurer’s report accepted with appreciation.
Letter to the media concerning support for Muslims in our communities. Ruth Marquez has completed the revisions of Oak Park Meeting’s letter to the media supporting Muslims. Bonni McKeown and Earl Smith have provided the MCGM clerk with a list media to whom to send the letter. The letter has not been sent; clerk & recording clerk asked for a volunteer to facilitate this job.
A copy of the letter will be sent to monthly meeting clerks. Bonni McKeown will then take on the task of sending it to the list of media sources. Contact information for MCGM will be included in the letter.
States of Society. States of Society reports were read from Lake Forest and Northside meetings. Friends held Northside and Lake Forest in the Light.
Nominating Committee for MCGM. Clerk talked about the need for a Nominating Committee for MCGM due to the Clerk and Recording Clerk wishing to be released from service. They are willing to serve until, at the latest, May 2012, at the convenience of the meeting. Friends decided that it would be best to work on a visioning process first, and then form a nominating committee/process later in the course of the year. Minute approved.
Visioning Process. Clerk asked how we wanted to begin the visioning process. Friends approved an ad hoc committee to decide how to structure the visioning process. The ad hoc committee is asked to be mindful, as they choose activities and facilitators, that MCGM meetings span two yearly meetings, ILYM and WYM. Visioning activities could be paid for from MCGM’s grant fund as well as budgeted session expenses. The ad hoc committee should also consider using program times during the regularly scheduled MCGM meetings in November and possibly February. A workshop or discussion at the Corn Roast and/or possibly a weekend retreat would also be within their charge. Judy Erickson, Bonni McKeown and Earl Smith have volunteered to serve on the ad hoc committee. Bonni McKeown will put out a request on the MCGM email list and send a request to MCGM meeting clerks for additional volunteers to serve on the ad hoc committee. Minute approved.
